Description
The Sun Xtender PVX-5040T is a 2-volt valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) AGM deep-cycle solar battery cell designed for large-scale stationary battery banks in off-grid and grid-tied solar and wind energy storage systems, commercial and industrial installations, telecom central office backup, SCADA and RTU infrastructure, and island power applications.
A division of Concorde Battery Corp. — an industry pioneer in VRLA-AGM battery design since 1987 — Sun Xtender engineered the PVX-5040T on the compact Group 24 platform with pure lead calcium grids and plates thicker than industry standard. As a 2-volt cell, the PVX-5040T is assembled in series strings to achieve any desired system voltage — 6 cells yield 12V, 12 cells yield 24V, and 24 cells yield 48V — with the full 504Ah capacity at the 24-hour rate available at every voltage, enabling battery designers to build precisely sized banks without the capacity compromises imposed by fixed-voltage 6V or 12V battery packaging.
Key Features:
- 2-Volt Cell Architecture — Precise Bank Configuration — Individual 2V cells assembled in series strings of 6, 12, or 24 cells deliver 12V, 24V, or 48V systems at full 504Ah capacity per string; cell-level architecture enables precise bank sizing, individual cell replacement, and serviceability not possible with fixed-voltage multi-cell batteries
- 4 M8 Terminals — 2 Front, 2 Farside — Unlike all other Sun Xtender models which use 2 terminals, the PVX-5040T features 4 copper alloy M8 threaded insert terminals — 2 on the front face and 2 on the far side — enabling flexible series string interconnection in multi-cell stationary battery bank configurations; all terminals supplied with silicon bronze bolts, nuts, and washers
- Pure Lead Calcium Grid Construction — Plates are thicker than industry standard for longer cycle life, increased reliability, and greater power output; low impedance AGM design allows excellent charge acceptance with no current limit required when using controlled voltage charging
- PolyGuard® Microporous Polyethylene Separators — Proprietary dual-layer insulation protection shields positive plates against shorting, shock, and vibration; a Sun Xtender exclusive feature not offered by any other manufacturer in the industry
- Non-Spillable VRLA-AGM Design — Valve-regulated, maintenance-free construction means no water replenishment ever; non-spillable design allows the battery to be used upright, on its end, or on its side without risk of electrolyte leakage — enabling safe installation in enclosed battery cabinets without the forced ventilation systems required by conventional flooded 2V cells
- High-Impact Copolymer Polypropylene Enclosure — Battery cover and container uniquely molded with reinforced copolymer polypropylene featuring thick end walls to prevent bulging under pressure; built to withstand the demands of rugged commercial, industrial, and large-scale stationary energy storage environments
- Hazmat Exempt Shipping — All Sun Xtender batteries ship Hazmat Exempt, simplifying logistics for distributors, dealers, and end users across all shipping channels
The PVX-5040T delivers 504Ah of nominal capacity at the 24-hour rate and scales up to 574Ah at the 100-hour rate, making it well suited for the slow, sustained discharge cycles typical of large stationary off-grid solar storage arrays and commercial backup power applications. At the 1-hour rate the battery delivers 312Ah per cell, confirming its ability to supply high current for shorter duration loads in large inverter and UPS systems. The low impedance AGM construction ensures excellent charge acceptance across the full range of charge rates with no current limit required when using a properly regulated charge source — a critical advantage in large commercial solar and wind systems where charge current varies significantly throughout the day.
Sun Xtender's proprietary PolyGuard® separator system provides a level of plate protection not available from competing AGM battery manufacturers, directly contributing to the PVX-5040T's long cycle life and resistance to vibration and shock loads common in commercial and industrial stationary installations. The 4-terminal layout — 2 front and 2 farside — is unique within the Sun Xtender lineup and reflects the interconnection requirements of multi-cell series string construction, where flexible terminal placement simplifies busbar routing and reduces interconnect cable lengths across large battery banks. At 57 lbs, the Group 24 PVX-5040T is one of the most handleable 2V cells in its capacity class, an important practical advantage when building or replacing individual cells in multi-cell strings. All Sun Xtender batteries ship Hazmat Exempt, eliminating the regulatory complexity and additional freight costs associated with non-exempt lead-acid battery shipments.
