Get Reliable, High-Efficiency Water Movement With a Solar Pool Pump

A solar pool pump keeps things circulating directly off your solar panels. No grid connection or electricity bill for one of the biggest power sucks on your property. They just make sense when you realize peak sun hours are right when your pool needs the most filtration. These pumps run hardest when it matters most.

We’ve handpicked the best models from Sun Pumps, a trusted brand in solar pump technology. These DC-powered surface units wire right into your solar array. There are two types to choose from:

  • Brush-type motors (90VDC): 39 to 85 GPM flow rates with 18 to 32 feet of head. Starting at $1,409.
  • Brushless motors (120-240VDC): 50 to 115 GPM with up to 60 feet of head. Longer lifespan, less maintenance. Starting at  $1,319.

Brushless units will need either a solar charge controller or a SunPumps pump controller (we carry both) to bring your system to life. They’re optional for brush-type pumps.

FAQ

Yes. The SunPumps we carry run on DC straight from your panels. No solar inverter needed. The pump kicks on when the sun comes up and it runs all day long.

Yes, it can pay for itself within a few seasons if your pool pump adds $50-150 a month to your electric bill. Circulation costs nothing after that! The SunPumps units are commercial grade, so you can rest assured this is a smart investment for the long haul.

Depends on your pool size and which pump you need. Smaller SunPumps models (39-50 GPM) run on roughly 500-800 watts of panel. The 115 GPM brushless unit needs closer to 1,500-2,000 watts. Don’t worry, we can help you size your array to the right pump every day. Just get in touch for a personalized recommendation.

Brushless models run longer since nothing wears out mechanically. Expect 10+ years with minimal upkeep. You’ll have to replace the brushes on brush-type motors every so often, but they’re super durable otherwise. Either type outlasts most conventional pool pumps.

No sun = no pump. Cloudy days and nighttime mean you won’t get as much circulation. That’s fine for most pools since you mostly need filtration during daylight anyway. You'd need battery storage on top of the panels if your pool genuinely needs 24-hour circulation.

The other drawback is that these pumps are more expensive than their conventional counterparts. Remember, though, they pay for themselves fast. It’s a smart investment.

Brushless SunPumps do. Brush-type motors can be wired directly to panels, but they still perform better with a controller managing the power input. We stock controllers for both types, starting at $635.
